"This two-piece wall sculpture is made of 3 and 5 Möbius strips connected to each other. This 3D shape is significant for having just one continuous side. It is a symbol of infinity (and recycling) but its shape can be interpreted in numerous interesting ways.
To start with, I love the shape and its twist, it is stunning visually. I am also enthralled by the concept of one continuous side. In our current environment, everything is a dichotomy: science and religion, body and mind, black and white, republican and liberal, male and female. I celebrate a shape that dares us to be on both sides at the same time.
Furthermore, if you follow this shape with your finger, you’re both in and out (insider and outsider) looping endlessly between the two. Another salient characteristic of this shape is the open space in the center of each strip. It is self-contained but open to the outside. The negative space is part of the sculpture. My sculpture combines with the background to modify and hopefully make sense of the world around it. Besides there is no specific way you have to display these two pieces, in relation to each other or by themselves. There are thousands of possibilities to look at them.
For me, each strip represents an entity unique by its shape, size, depth, color, even the way it is twisted around, similar but different. By combining them, I create a community of sorts that live in harmony. The two pieces are made with an odd number of strips (3, 5) but together create an even number of strips (8! More math!). There is a symbol there too, hope of a community that can coexist despite its oddities and ultimately find strength and harmony in its differences."
