Found paper collage on paper. 10.25 x 8.25
 
I am a collagist working with the paper detritus of commercial print media. As a collection of paper fragments, a collage can court abstraction through the deployment of those margins around the instantly recognizable image (which is typically the fodder we crave for from our media.... perhaps because we are a lazy image-saturated culture). In this piece I aim to foreground the paper itself, its patina, its fragility, its rips and tears, and its decorative elements rather than the figure or object depicted. One could say it is more concrete in its abstraction because such contradictions can sometimes be beautifully revealing.
