Dorothea was a Christian saint and martyr. She was condemned to death during the persecutions because she refused to make sacrifices to the gods. On the road to martyrdom, she met a man called Theophilus, who ironically asked her: "Bride of Christ, send me some apples and roses from your husband's garden." Dorothea accepted and, before the beheading, during a prayer, a child brought her three roses and three apples and she told her to take them to Theophilus, who, seeing the miracle, converted to Christianity.
