About the piece: Last Summer our local Eastern Spinebill pair raised two chicks in our backyard. During the day I would watch the two chicks being fed by both parents, then bouncing up the plants, learning to fly. At the same time they left, I found the skeleton of a bird nearby that had probably moved on to the next life at the same time the new birds were born. It brought to mind the cyclic nature of life and death and how nature is a reminder of the omnipresence of both.
Care instructions: This piece is done in graphite that has been buffed into the surface (being archival claybord), which when viewed at certain angles produces a reflective finish. It has been sprayed with Fixative, containing UV light absorbers and stabilizers and protects against smudging and fading. It is framed behind optical grade perspex, which is 94% UV resistant. Even so, this drawing is best displayed out of direct sunlight.
