At the time of this shoot, Rachel was facing a major life transition. Now in middle age, with only one teen left at home, she stands on the edge of a life lived on her own terms. To the outside world, she appears straight, and the complexity and vibrancy of her queer identity often goes unseen. 
 
That invisibility can offer safety and access denied to others, but it also carries a quiet isolation, a solitude that comes from being partially unreadable.
