Learnm about the international abstract group show "amorpha" [amorpha]. march 2025 group show With an homage to František Kupka’s 1912 Amorpha , this group show focuses on (non-representational, non-objective, non-figurative) abstract art that leverages elements such as color, geometry, lines, shapes, space, sound, and/or movement to provide rich, unapologetic commentaries on contemporary life. On view from March 8 to March 29, the show features new original artworks by local and international artists : Alexa Pouzar, Alexandria Levin, Allison Hmura, Amanda Woods, Camryn Gulledge, Cindy Latimer, Daria Loi, Dawn Schneider, Georgina Downs, Jacqueline Myers-Cho, Joni Smith, Clive Knights, Laura Rota, Laurent Lejeune, Maguelonne Ival, Marc Sirinsky, Marion Wesson, Ottavia McHenry, Penina Finger, Reade Weber, Rebecca Sira and Wynter Jones. Artists were challenged to use their craft to communicate powerful sentiments in viewers, through artworks that provide rich, unapologetic commentaries on current issues, trajectories, or events – using any technique, style or medium. The result is a collection of unique pieces inspired by deeply personal reflections. For example, w hile Texas-based Alexa Pouzar's "Finding balance" explores memory through the exploration of form, Tennessee-based Amanda Woods' piece titled "95 Problems... but this Bitch Ain't One" offers perspectives on addressing religious trauma. "About To Billow," a photographic print on Dura-Lar polyester film by Virginia-based Marc Sirinsky, narrates the beauty/decay dichotomy experienced around a local refinery. Miami-based Jacqueline Myers-Cho's "Finding the Calm" captures the delicate balance between chaos and calm, inviting reflection on the dualities we navigate daily. The ceramic wall sculpture "3+5 Möbius" by French artist Maguelonne Ival reflects on contemporary dichotomies (science and religion, body and mind, black and white, republican and liberal, male and female) and celebrates "a shape that dares us to be on both sides at the same time." With her piece titled "Entrainment," Oregon-based Rebecca Sira explores the phenomenon of entrainment (synchronization of two or more rhythms into a single, dominant pattern) to invite us to "reflect on synchronization with the world's rhythms and the consequences of aligning with dominant forces." Australian artist Georgina Downs created a piece that focuses on the "grace of musical law," that explores "the intricacies of counterpoint, harmony, musical color and balance through pattern and variations."

Learn about 2025 duo show that featured Italian artists Marco Calvi and Pupillae (Gioconda Pieracci). il cantastorie. marco calvi & gioconda pieracci (pupillae) | april 5-26, 2025 On view from April 5 to April 26, the show features an impressive collection of original artdolls (Gioconda Pieracci), illustrations (Marco calvi) and stories (Federico Grasso) that retrace the travels of "Il Cantastorie" (The Storyteller) – a mysterious and immortal figure who crosses eras, legends and dreams. Each artwork in the exhibition focuses on a step in the journey of this wondrous character, as he aimlessly wanders around the world meeting new people and mythical creatures. Viewers are guided on this magical journey, one artwork to the next, by Il Cantastorie himself, thanks to Italian author Federico Grasso, who wrote all narrations for this special exhibition. In the words of The Storyteller himself: "I can't tell what, of all the wonders I have seen, was true or just a dream. I wandered for a long time and was the guest of kings as well as goblins, divinities and witches, in every corner of the globe. I observed much and many stories were told to me. The journey and the company were so pleasant for me that on my return I wanted to share what I witnessed. I therefore commissioned dolls and illustrations, works of great value, so that they could reproduce what was contained only in my memory – or imagination. I gathered all the works in this exhibition, so that anyone could enjoy them. Together with my stories, the fabulous creations of Gioconda Pieracci and Marco Calvi will accompany you into this world of wonder and astonishment." about. Marco Calvi is a freelance illustrator who lives and works in Milan. He collaborates with various publishing houses, including ABEditore, Mosca Bianca Edizioni, Nativi Digitali Edizioni, and with craft businesses throughout Italy. Italian artist Gioconda Pieracci, known as Pupillae, sees doll-making as a form of storytelling and creates artdolls that are infused with a dreamlike, surreal vision, seamlessly intertwined with the natural world – ethereal beings that exist between fantasy and reality. il cantastorie. explore the collection Quick View Il Cantastorie (Pupillae & Marco Calvi) Out of stock Quick View Baba Yaga (Pupillae & Marco Calvi) Out of stock Quick View La Lechuza (Pupillae & Marco Calvi) Price $1,880.00 Quick View Pablo (Marco Calvi) Price $840.00 Quick View Salomè (Marco Calvi) Price $800.00 Quick View Leto (Marco Calvi) Price $840.00 Quick View The lady and the dragon (Marco Calvi) Out of stock Quick View The Masque of the Red Death (Marco Calvi) Out of stock Quick View Wendigo (Marco Calvi) Price $330.00 Quick View Kikimora (Marco Calvi) Price $330.00 Quick View Bogeyman (Marco Calvi) Out of stock Quick View Gatto Mammone (Marco Calvi) Price $330.00 Quick View Green Pixie #2 (Pupillae) Price $130.00 Quick View Green Pixie #1 (Pupillae) Out of stock Quick View Snail Lady (Pupillae) Out of stock Quick View Dandelion (Pupillae) Out of stock
- verdant submerged (aug 2024) | imperfecta.xyz
Local ceramic craft exhibition that took place in August 2024. verdant submerged. solo show | erin redding | aug 10-31, 2024 In this exhibit, Verdant Submerged, Erin Redding explored themes related to nature and its power to take one elsewhere, with emphasis on "green forests" and the "abundance of water" around her home. In her own words: "When I hear water coming from waterfalls and rushing rivers everything else is washed away leaving me with a sense of serenity that is unparalleled. The strength of the ocean and crashing of water in the waves feeds me. For a moment I forget all my personal struggles and the stresses of surviving in this world that is created by humans, and the joy I get from the world created by nature makes me feel truly alive." Erin Redding's work focuses on mimicking "some of the grace of nature" – from the pathways created by flowing water to how nature finds balance through adaptation and constant evolution. While her clay works leverage natural elements through embossing, the potter is careful in how elements are harvested, ensuring she only takes what she needs to leave marks on her art – yet not on her natural surroundings. Ferns, hortensias, fallen leaves, delicate flowers such as viola or dogwood petals are frequent themes in Erin Redding's work as she focuses on capturing their beauty in the clay and helping them come alive with watered down underglaze or oxides.
- pareidolia & anthropomorphism (nov 2025) | imperfecta.xyz
Learn about "Pareidolia and Anthropomorphism," a solo show featuring artist LittleSwimminMachine (Francesca Loi). pareidolia & anthropomorphism. littleswimminmachine | nov 8-29, 2025 The Imperfecta gallery is proud to present "Pareidolia and Anthropomorphism," an art doll exhibit featuring UK-based artist LittleSwimminMachine (Francesca Loi). This artshow was originally inspired by the artist's fascination with the concept of Pareidolia: the human tendency to perceive faces in nature's random patterns (even when none actually exist). Such a fascination led her to an exploration of the anthropomorphic - the attribution of human form and character to non-human entities - with the ultimate goal of blurring the boundary between reality and imagination. Loi has once again chosen to work with multiple materials, blending diverse textures, styles, and human features as a means of merging the "typical" with the strange. In doing this, she hopes to have conjured up stirrings of unease. Watch this video where artist Francesca Loi shares what inspired this show and her approach to her artdolls: The show, part of Fall Of Freedom , asks viewers to consider the potentials of pareidolia and anthropomorphism in our society: what would happen if we were to collectively find humanity in all that surrounds us? The show debuts at the Imperfecta Gallery on November 8 with an opening reception between 5 and 7pm and runs through November 29. About the artist Francesca Loi (LittleSwimminMachine) is a London-based doll maker passionate about upcycling and the beauty of imperfections found in vintage textiles and found artefacts. - already been chewed (dec 2025) | imperfecta.xyz
Learn about "Already been Chewed," a solo show featuring artist Wynter Jones. already been chewed. wynter jones | dec 6-27, 2025 The Imperfecta Gallery is excited to present Already Been Chewed, a solo exhibition featuring Portland based artist Wynter Jones. On view on December 6-27, the show explores memory, identity, and the lingering effects of religious and patriarchal conditioning. Drawing from her early experiences growing up within the Mormon faith, this body of work unearths embedded memories—some tender, others painful, many absurd—that continue to revisit her internal landscape 25 years later. Rather than presenting a linear narrative, this body of work wanders, stumbles, and circles back on itself, mimicking the nonlinear nature of memory and the way it persists or dissipates. Through drawing and painting, she attempts to shape the intangible and blurred impressions that persist long after the doctrine has been rejected and abandoned. What emerges is more than a denunciation of patriarchy, but a complex act of witnessing. Already Been Chewed sits with the discomfort, the absurdity, and the ambiguity of what remains. It asks: What stays with us, even when we think we've moved on? What narratives and past beliefs do we internalize, and how do they continue to echo in our body? This exhibition honors the residue of lived experience—the traces of a culture that shaped, constrained, and ultimately failed to define her. In holding these fragments to the light, she invites viewers to reflect on their own histories, asking how memory, shame, tenderness, and resilience coexist within us all. About the artist Originally from Kaysville, Utah, Wynter Jones has been drawing and painting for most of her life. She holds a Masters of Education and teaches art in the Portland metro area. Wynter's art alternates between abstraction and realism, often merging the two. She also explores a variety of 2D media, such as oil paint, acrylic, watercolor, ink and pen. Wynter is interested in merging intangible marks with representational subjects, muting edges and re-defining them. She sees her art as an act of extending minutes, recapturing the passage of time with tiny marks, simple subjects, and connective patterns. already been chewed. view the collection Quick View Harken, Eve! - alone and counting (feb 2026) | imperfecta.xyz
alone and counting. jennifer gillia cutshall art installation | feb 5 - 28, 202 The Imperfecta Gallery is excited to present Alone and Counting, featuring Portland-based artist Jennifer Gillia Cutshall. On view February 5-28 2026, this art installation critically explores the rapid degradation of personal, social and natural ecosystems in the name of convenience – and the turmoil that such a degradation generates. “I am honored to create this installation in Imperfecta’s new space that promises great momentum with Daria Loi at the helm!” shares Cutshall, “It is an exciting time for the Portland art scene because Daria brings an expansive vision and she is a much-needed force of hope.” With Alone and Counting, Cutshall asks us to consider not only the increased control that technologies exert onto our collective and individual psyche, but also how precariously dependent we all have become. As she explains, “technology has heightened and reinforced a strange toxic vigilance (the quantification and measuring of vapid things like counting likes and followers on social media),” steering individuals and communities into isolation and creating increased opportunities for a surveillance society. Ironically, the same technology that was designed to connect us is the same that is dividing us – degrading human connection and entire ecosystems. “The time spent on screens far exceeds the time spent with face-to-face interactions or moments immersed in nature,” explains Jennifer G. Cutshall, “what would it be like if we traded half of our screen time for activities geared toward protecting the environment?” In Alone and Counting, Cutshall’s sculptural-builds are vignettes narrating this perilous story through gathered and gleaned objects as well as materials that she alters using open flames, hence describing our bleak and increasingly burnt realities. In such settings, a lone bride stands among a cemetery of stumps (ghosts of the flame – tree skeletons) that hang in the balance. “She stands as a matriarch (mother earth) and a symbolic figure betrayed…” shares Cutshall, “Will this marriage and devotion to technology lead to our ultimate demise or will it just leave us more alone and counting?” Cutshall engages with installations to gestate and realize ideas and spaces simultaneously – open to divergences, possibilities and adaptations. While the artist frequently engages in more traditional forms of fine art, installation art occupies the most important and primal aspect of her practice. As an artist and a curator, her conversations with space inform her installation work and create opportunities to entwine concerns with visions – anchoring her inner ruminations while holding infinite opportunities for expansion, growth, and engagement. Alone and Counting offers a unique and wondrous opportunity to not only glean Cutshall’s process but also to be touched by her longing for new realities, where social and natural ecosystems are rediscovered and re-embraced. The show debuts on February 5, with an Opening Reception from 5 to 8pm. About Jennifer Gillia Cutshall Jennifer Gillia Cutshall is an artist and curator in Portland, Oregon.
