signal/noise. dan gay | october 1-31, 2026

On view October 1-31, 2026, this exhibition presents works by Portland artist Dan Gay.
Through this ongoing series, the artist is looking at the frayed edges of our perception, our distance and connection—the vulnerability and beauty of being an individual in the world, and the challenges of being together.
As the artist explains: "Over the past six years my portraits have touched on many ideas and themes both personal and, I hope, universal. Sometimes the process is simply an exploration of painting, sometimes I'm trying to tease out some humanity from all the noise. This process has been both a respite and a challenge, deep work and comfort. I played with textures, tools, and time. I let go of rules and explored within the confines of a simple figure. I've met myself in new ways in the process. I've seen lost friends and shadows of unmet others; reflections of me, and of us. I hope you see something familiar here too, a reflection of what it might mean to be a person."
