In my work as a sculptor, imperfection takes on a deep and personal meaning, as I see it as an expression of each human being’s unique identity. From my perspective, imperfection arises through comparison with others and the models of perfection that society imposes on us. However, in my sculptures, I seek to explore precisely those characteristics that set us apart from others, celebrating the individuality of each person.
Through sculpture, I investigate how personal identity is shaped by our differences and the marks we carry, both physical and emotional. When I sculpt, I draw inspiration from what might be considered "imperfections" by societal standards. Nevertheless, to me, these so-called imperfections are not flaws, but rather distinctive traits that define a person—the imprints of their story and being. Asymmetry, scars, and shapes that deviate from what is deemed ideal are elements that capture the authenticity of my subjects.
In my creative process, I aim to challenge traditional models of beauty and perfection that have been ingrained in us. My sculptures explore what makes us different, those characteristics that separate us from homogeneous ideals, and ultimately construct our true identity. I do not seek to smooth out or correct, but rather to expose what society often labels as "flaws" and show that these differences are what make us human and, therefore, beautiful.
Through my work, I invite reflection on how imperfection is an integral part of our identity. It is what distinguishes us and connects us to others, and it deserves to be celebrated rather than hidden or altered to fit into unattainable social molds.
