Isabella was playing in the garden at dusk, just as the summer heat began to subside. Her mother often glanced out the window to see what she was doing. Suddenly, she saw the little girl shyly conversing with a hydrangea bush. When dinner was ready, her mother called for Isabella. A creature appeared at the kitchen door, attempting to mimic the child. They stared at each other for a moment; then, the changeling sat down in Isabella’s place at the table.
