Gallery Representation: Dos & Don'ts
[...and is it for you?]
Imperfecta was invited by the Clackamas Arts Alliance to give a presentation for their artists' cohort, outlining tips and perspectives from the point of view of a gallery owner and director.
The presentation is divided into four sections.
The first focuses on the importance of establishing IF gallery representation is the right step to consider. While many artists feel it is a must do, I argue that gallery representation is not a necessary condition for success and it is not for everyone.
The second section focuses on what to consider and what to avoid IF one establishes that gallery representation is for them.
The third section focuses on important points to keep in check once an artist is represented by a gallery - to ensure they continue benefiting and can successfully thrive.
The final section focuses on the key role of ethics, both for artists and as well as customers.
You can find the slides below -- while there is MUCH that is not in the actual slides, I hope you'll nevertheless find content valuable.
