Sauyce West, a body acceptance activist and long-time collaborator, joined me and photographer Carey Lynne Fruth for this shoot in San Francisco. Together, we worked with the language of glamour and fashion to draw attention to the constructed nature of cultural body standards, showing that imagery can celebrate the charisma of a queer Black fat woman just as it often does a thin, white subject.
