Symbolic of idyllic living, a conventional nuclear family, and a happy childhood - the proverbial picket fence can also represent the veneer we (or others) place on top of our own experiences to live up to this ideal.  What happens when that façade begins to erode, despite our best efforts to hold it together?  A push and pull often occurs – a struggle between the emergence of our true selves and a desire to pick up the pieces of our established persona.
